SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) is a system for monitoring, collecting data and controlling processes remotely. SCADA software lets operators view the entire production line on screen, detect problems early and make decisions based on real data.
01What does a SCADA system consist of?
- Field devices: sensors, meters, variable frequency drives, motors.
- Controllers: PLCs or RTUs that collect signals and control equipment.
- Communication networks: Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP, Profinet, RS-485, etc.
- Server and SCADA software: store data and display the monitoring interface.
- Operator screens and reports: local HMIs, office computers or web dashboards.
02Benefits of deploying SCADA software
- Real-time monitoring of machine status, output and fault alarms.
- Tracking energy consumption by area and by machine to reduce costs.
- Storing operating history to help trace the causes of downtime.
- Automating production reports and reducing manual record keeping.
- Connecting data to higher-level management systems (MES, ERP).
03Steps to deploy SCADA in a factory
- Survey existing equipment and determine which data needs to be collected.
- Design the network architecture and select the appropriate communication standard.
- Program the PLC and build the monitoring interface and database.
- Run trials, calibrate alarms and train operators.
- Maintain and expand additional measurement points as the factory grows.
Tam Phat JSC has deployed energy monitoring software and SCADA systems for factories including TOTO, Mikado Thai Binh and Toyota Boshoku. See details on the SCADA Software page.
