SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) is a system for monitoring, data acquisition, and remote control. SCADA software allows operators to view the entire production line on screen, detect faults early, and make decisions based on actual data.

01What Does a SCADA System Include?

  • Field devices: sensors, meters, variable frequency drives and motors.
  • Controllers: PLCs or RTUs collect signals and control equipment.
  • Communication networks: Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP, Profinet, RS-485…
  • Servers and SCADA software: store data and display monitoring interfaces.
  • Operator interfaces and reports: local HMI, office computer or web interface.

02Benefits of implementing SCADA software

  • Monitor machine status, production output and fault alerts in real time.
  • Track energy consumption by area and machine to reduce costs.
  • Store operating history to help trace the causes of machine downtime.
  • Automate production reporting and reduce manual recordkeeping.
  • Data connectivity with higher-level management systems (MES, ERP).

03Steps to Implement SCADA in a Factory

  • Survey existing equipment and identify the data to be collected.
  • Network architecture design and selection of suitable communication standards.
  • PLC programming, monitoring interface design and database development.
  • Trial runs, alarm adjustment and operator training.
  • Maintenance and addition of measurement points as the factory expands.
Tâm Phát JSC has implemented energy monitoring and SCADA software for the TOTO, Mikado Thái Bình and Toyota Boshoku factories. See details on the page SCADA software.
